Louis-seize
 
[lwi'sɛːz; französisch »Ludwig XVI.«] das, -, nach Ludwig XVI. (1774-92) benannte Stilrichtung der französischen Kunst seit etwa 1760 bis zur Französischen Revolution, die in Abwendung vom Rokoko stärker klassizistische Tendenzen betonte und zum Klassizismus (französisch néoclassicisme) überleitete. In der Baukunst traten neben Schloss, Hôtel und Kirche neue Bauaufgaben, wie Rathaus, Gerichtsgebäude, Theater und Hospital. Hauptvertreter sind in der Baukunst J.-A. Gabriel, J.-G. Soufflot, J. F. Chalgrin, in der Skulptur J.-B. Pigalle, A. Pajou, in der Malerei J.-B. Greuze, H. Robert. Das Louis-seize prägte im Kunsthandwerk besonders die Möbelkunst (J.-H. Riesener) und Innendekoration.
